Counselling for our Community
We offer counselling to the communities of Teesside, Durham Dales & Sedgefield, even when there has been no previous involvement with any of our other Hospice services.
Following a diagnosis of cancer or other progressive illness we understand how anxious and scary it can be, feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of what lies ahead. You might feel stressed and worried, for both you and your family, so it can often help to have someone outside of the family, to talk to.
Our counsellors can offer support and understanding and can help explore concerns with things such as:
- Adjustment to living with cancer or other progressive illness
- Issues of loss related to health and physical changes
- Managing stress due to treatment and disruption to normal life
- Coping with unexpected changes that arise as a result of illness and treatment, such as early menopause or loss of fertility
- Anxiety and depression as a reaction to life changes
- Career or work stress following a diagnosis/treatment
- Identity/self-confidence/self-esteem issues as a consequence of life changes
- Relationship changes/problems due to prolonged treatment or changes in health
- Fears about the future

Thank you for believing in me and helping me find the new me. I’m growing to love her, she’s doing her best which is all anyone can do.

Thank you for giving me my life back and enabling me to keep going when all I wanted to do was curl up in bed and sleep until it didn’t hurt anymore.

Bereavement, following the death of a loved one, due to cancer or other progressive life-limiting illness, can feel like an emotional rollercoaster.
Sometimes we manage with the support of family and friends, but at other times we may find it helpful to talk with someone outside of that circle.
Our bereavement counselling service offers one-to-one counselling for adults, and children over 6 yrs.
Sessions take place in our Stockton and Bishop Auckland hospices, and we may also attend schools for sessions with children.
We also provide adult bereavement groups, led by members of our therapeutic counselling team.
Please contact us on 01642 607742 for Stockton, or 01388 603003 for Bishop Auckland, and ask to speak to the Family Support Team, alternatively, you can submit a referral enquiry form and one of our team will be in touch.
