At Butterwick Hospice, we understand the importance of supporting the entire family, through the challenges of facing a life-limiting diagnosis. There may be great stress and worry for all concerned, including any children and young people who are part of the family.
We recognise this, and can offer emotional support and Counselling at any point in your journey. Our aim is to be there for you when you need to talk, listening without judgement, and offering support and understanding, with whatever you bring to your session.
Families often comment that it is helpful to talk with someone outside the family, and to know that the children can also be supported, either by using us for guidance and advice, or by us providing counselling support.
We can be there to offer support throughout an illness and following a death. We will also offer informal support where counselling is not required.
Please contact us on 01642 607742 for Stockton, or 01388 603003 for Bishop Auckland, and ask to speak to the Family Support Team, alternatively, you can submit a referral enquiry form and one of our team will be in touch.
Our team is made up of qualified and experienced Counsellors and Family Support Volunteers, who are all members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
All confidentiality does have some limits, but these will be explained to you when you first meet your Counsellor.
Counselling can help by offering a safe space to be listened to, understood, and accepted, during a difficult time in your life. Talking with a Counsellor is different to talking with a friend, and they can help you explore what you are thinking and feeling, to try and make sense of it.
Yes absolutely, you may have things you wish to plan, or practicalities to consider, and your Counsellor can help you to organise your thoughts and decide what you want to do.
