Our Children’s Hospice
Butterwick Children’s Hospice provides care for children with life limiting conditions who require enhanced levels of support, as well as support for their family members. The bedroomed Children & Young Adult facility is based within our Stockton Hospice.
Our Hospice offers a very warm welcome to babies, children, teenagers, young adults and their families. Most of the children and young people who come to Butterwick Children’s Hospice need around the clock care – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some children and young adults come for the day, many come for a short break either by themselves or they can come with their family.
Our Facilities
Our Stockton based setting offers a bright and happy environment where children and their families can make the most of every moment.
We have 4 children’s bedrooms, each with adapted equipment that ensures the safety of our patients and offers full accessibility for their needs. In addition to this, we have 2 young adult’s bedrooms, which are located in a separate wing of the Children’s Unit and are designed to be used by young adults aged 18 – 25 years.
Â
We also have a self-contained accommodation located above the Children’s Unit providing space for the patient’s family to be close to their child, whilst still taking the opportunity for respite care knowing their child is being cared for by a loving team of specialist professionals.
There are lots of fun things for children and young people to do here such as:
- play games
- use our specialist technology
- create arts and crafts
- spend time in multi-sensory room
- play in our sensory garden
- take trips out with our team
The support given to Manisha and us as a family is second to none. Manisha is well cared for and the facilities meet her every need. We get total peace of mind knowing we have no reason to worry while she is with all staff at Butterwick Hospice. It’s Manisha’s home from home.

When I tell people Adam is coming to the Hospice, they automatically think he is going their to die. That couldn’t be further from the truth! He comes to the hospice for fun and to give me some respite. As a single mum, it gives me a chance to do the things I can’t when I am providing around the clock care for Adam. The hospice is full of life and I can relax knowing he is safe and well cared for.

Lottie had the most wonderful stay with you all last week! She was so relaxed, happy and well pampered. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to know our precious little girl is so well cared for and that she’s having such a wonderful break from us. You’re all so tuned into her interests and go above and beyond to make her experience a special one.
