All profits from Butterwick Lotteries Limited go directly towards funding Butterwick Hospice services, which offers support to patients with life limiting illnesses.
- New members will be sent a unique draw number.
- All subscriptions received at a minimum of £1 per week payable in advance will be entered into the weekly draw using the unique draw number. The draw will be made utilising a Random Number Generator (RNG) that has been tested and approved by an independent, Gambling Commission approved, third party test house. The draw will normally take place each Friday. Monthly subscriptions by direct debit of £4.34 include 34p which accumulates and funds the 13th week, which occurs every three months.
- Please be advised that we are required by our licence to inform customers about what happens to their funds which we hold on account for you in the event of insolvency.
We hold all customer funds separate from company funds in a UK bank account, but they would form part of the assets of the business in the event of insolvency. These funds are therefore not protected in the event of insolvency and are classed as “not protected segregation”.

Financial records are reconciled on a regular basis and fully audited accounts are produced annually.
- Prize winners are notified by post within one week of the draw taking place which will include the relevant winning cheque. Weekly winning numbers are published in Butterwick shops and on our website. They are also available from the Lottery Office. We reserve the right to accept as a donation/gift to the charity any winners cheques that have not been cashed within six month of issue.
- The regular payment facility can be by standing order, Direct Debit, debit card, cheque or cash collection. Mandates are available on the back of our promotional leaflets, available from the registered office. Direct Debit mandates are available from the lottery office and you must be aged 18 years or over to sign a Direct Debit mandate. Card payments are debited from member’s accounts on the same day each month. Age restrictions apply to this lottery membership as detailed in section 11 below.
- We promise to comply with all data protection act requirements and GDPR requirements and protect your personal data as well as storing securely bank information. It must be appreciated by members that Butterwick Lotteries Limited cannot accept liability for the loss or delays in or theft of any communication sent by post or email, or for any delays in the banking system.
- Membership cancellation can be carried out at any time, although those received after 12 noon on a Wednesday may not be actioned until after the weekly draw. If you pay by standing order, Direct Debit or regular debit card payment then you must cancel in writing. Please contact the Registered Office for further assistance.
Where members cancel in credit and that credit is sufficient to meet the subscription of future draws, we will hold these funds for your entry into those future draws.
In the event that the credit remaining on the account is less than one week’s subscription fee then we will regard this as a donation/gift to the good cause unless you request otherwise.
Any request to refund your full entitlement must be made in writing at the time of cancellation and that entitlement will be sent to the named member by cheque (or direct bank transfer where possible) within seven working days or for card payers, refunded to your card account within the same period.
- We reserve the right not to accept an application, or to cancel an existing subscription. Any such rejection or cancellation may be reconsidered on submission of a written appeal to the Lottery Manager/Lottery promoter within seven days. The decision of the Lottery Manager/Lottery promoter will be final.
- It is the responsibility of the player to advise us of any change of address or any other membership details deemed necessary.
- An instruction to be self-excluded, as defined in the Gambling Act 2005, from Butterwick Lotteries or any Butterwick Lotteries one off prize draws may be submitted in writing, emailed or telephoned to the Registered Office. Customers wishing to use this facility will not be able to re-join the lottery for a minimum of six months from the date of exclusion.
- The Gambling Act 2005 confirms that Butterwick Lotteries Limited has a statutory duty to verify that members and potential members are of legal age to gamble, therefore the minimum age we allow anyone to play the Butterwick Lottery or claim a winning prize is aged 18 years. It is an offence for anyone under the age of 18 years to participate in this Lottery. Butterwick Lotteries Limited reserve the right, where appropriate, to carry out checks to verify this requirement, including seeking confirmation from relevant agencies that can provide such information.
- Butterwick Lotteries Limited is a member of the Hospice Lotteries Association (HLA) which on behalf of their members makes a financial contribution towards the Responsible Gambling Trust (www.responsiblegamblingtrust.org.uk) an organisation with the sole aim of fundraising to assist with problem gambling. The HLA website (www.hospicelotteries.org.uk) has a page dedicated to the Responsible Gambling Trust and also to GAMCARE (www.gamcare.org.uk) the leading organisation that provides practical help to problem gamblers. - All complaints and disputes will be dealt with in accordance with our policy, a copy of which is available from the Registered Office. In the event that a complaint or dispute cannot be resolved then it will be referred to arbitration. As a member of the HLA this will be The Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS).
- Butterwick Lotteries Limited reserves the right to amend or modify these terms and conditions without notice.
- Our website www.butterwick.org.uk (Lottery section) contains information relating to the total amount of money raised and what percentage of those funds have been used to pay prizes and administrative and processing fees and how much has subsequently been donated back to the Butterwick Hospice Care Charity.
